Do not miss out the opportunity of using low cost aluminium for wiring

Aluminium wires have been widely used in homes, power grids for transmission of electricity, airplanes etc. This is especially useful in aircrafts as aluminium offers better conductivity to weight ratio than other metals such as copper. Do you that it was widely used in 1960s and 1970s? At that time it was available in small sizes so that they can be used in houses. In the 1960s, there was a specification of device which was called as CU/AL that was meant to be used with devices for aluminium wiring that was used for larger equipment. There was a standard with CO/ ALR to be used for standard switches for lights.

You must have heard that gold and silver are the best conductors with little resistance. But these will be too expensive to be used for wiring! So the next best alternatives are copper and aluminium. Out of these two, aluminium is offering many advantages that are leading to its growing popularity. These include – lower costs, light in weight, lower transportation costs, higher flexibility, low corona effect etc.

One of the common mistakes that people commit is joining of aluminium and copper wires. There is a possibility of galvanic pressure being generated that may make the connections unstable over a period of time. These two metals can be joined with the help of special connectors that prevent such unwarranted results. Many aluminium cable manufacturers use anti-oxidants to prevent corrosion of connection also.
Using aluminium cables with some care can reap huge benefits for users. Don’t you want to be one of them?

Are you aware of the growing trend of use of aluminium cables for wiring purpose?

Have you ever thought why should aluminium wires be used in an appliance? Or do you really bother as to which one to select while choosing a particular type of wire (copper, aluminium etc.) at the time of buying or using it? It may surprise you that it does make a difference if you pick aluminium cable or copper cables or any other. There is no doubt that copper is the primary material used in wiring today. However, nowadays copper is being increasingly replaced by aluminium cables due to many reasons. So let us look at some of the differentiating factors that may induce you to prefer aluminium for your uses:

Light in weight – Aluminium is lighter in weight than other copper which makes it much easier to work with. In hybrid vehicles ,it helps in shedding extra weights from such vehicles so that they can be brought within the regulatory requirements

Increase in efficiency – the additional weight added on a vehicle will lead to higher fuel consumption and lower batter life. Use of light-weight materials will impact the performance in the long run as well. While this benefit is not highlighted, it does lead to huge monetary advantages in the long run

Affordable – the aluminium is more affordable than copper today. This has been possible mainly due to better mining and refining processes developed for the metal

Other benefits include better conductivity per weight of wire ratio than copper, lower emissions helping vehicles, better longevity etc. It does make it hard to believe why other metals are still used for wiring applications. Isn’t it?
